Sabelt was founded in
1972 by
Piero and
Giorgio Marsiaj, starting as Britax licensee and quickly became the most important manufacturer of car seat belts in Italy.
In 1976, in order to standardize the release system under FISA request, Sabelt introduced the rotary cam buckle. It was also around this time that the Company developed the first special harnesses for single seater cars and for saloon.
In 1977 Sabelt produced 1.000.000 seatbelts.
In 1981, also in Italy seatbelt became compulsory on new car models.

In 1985 majority of Sabelt was bought by TRW USA, one of the Top Ten major automotive supplier.
In 1989, seatbelts became compulsory on every car model. Sabelt has always been involved from the very beginning in child safety (for few years also as a complete child seat manufacturer).
From mid 90's Sabelt concentrate its efforts to become a leading child restrain safety systems developer and manufacturer.
In 1999, Sabelt reached an agreement with TRW to buy back the racing harness business beside which to start the development of a complete range of safety products dedicated to racing.
In 2001, Sabelt developed and started producing a new fashion shoes line. Thanks to the innovative range of products in child restraint and racing field, in few years Sabelt has become a sector leader and one of the most important manufacturer in the World (more than 2,5 millions buckles produced in 2004.
